Rolled out in 1958, Long Beach, California. Dad played me Spike Jones, my sisters played me Frank Zappa, my brother played me Procol Harum. Got reasonably serious about my record collecting about ’69 or so. I frequented as many record stores as possible at this time, discovering Hollywood, California etc.
I formed a band, The Decayes, about 1968 or so. We released 5 LP’s and the band continues in 2013, with a new release, “Aquarium.”
I learned to travel in search of records—San Francisco, Las Vegas, Orange County etc.
Got my first record store job in July, 1976—Licorice Pizza, Bellflower, California. I eventually went to work for the company that owned Licorice Pizza, Superior Music, Glendale, California. From that job, I worked for Important Records, Lawndale, California. Eventually landed at USS&M with Tony Harrington, Studio City, California. I started ANZ Imports, a mail-order catalogue that featured mostly artistes from Australia and New Zealand.
Moved to England in 1990, operated CD Express, Bath—an export company. Landed back in L.A., went to work for Bay Cities Disc in Hermosa Beach, California. Import buyer, Poo-Bah Record Shop, Pasadena, California. I worked with Joe Castle on www.musicinferno.com… Got a straight job in ’99.
Traveled to England / Europe since 1979; to New Zealand / Australia 1980 – 1987; to Japan since ’94. Online since…forever ago, I forget when—’96 or so?
