Rolf Harris

Yesterday, 1/19 Dewey Bunell, the British member of America, born 1952 (Yorkshire, England).  Also yesterday, happy birthday to Janis Joplin of Big Brother & The Holding Company (1943, Port Arthur, TX).

Rolf Harris

I am exactly the correct age to remember when “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” was a big novelty hit on early 60’s U.S. radio.  I doubt I knew that Australia was a neat place – only having seen it on a globe or in a postage stamp catalog!

Unless I am mistaken, Rolf Harris is, in fact, English – not Australian.  And “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” isn’t his biggest hit, internationally.

As one-hit-wonders from the 60’s usually go, I had no idea he made records other than “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” – though I remember seeing his LP covers on EMI UK inner-sleeves.  Well, I certainly never heard any of them!

In the current century, Mr. Harris is still alive and I now have several of his LP’s – mostly “Best Of” hits type LP’s.  I am unconcerned with the allegations made against Mr. Harris (a la Jimmy Saville).  These days, he paints / draws a lot, apparently.

So, is “Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport” in stereo anywhere?  I must check, but I think it’s in stereo on a Canada Capitol hits LP that I found.  And it’s produced by George Martin!  In England!
